PROTOCOL XENO A first-person survival horror experience — built as a university project.

You are Dr. Arman Voss, a biotechnology specialist who has worked at the Helix-9 Bio Research Complex for years — a remote underground facility hidden in the wilderness of Minnesota, dedicated to the study of extraterrestrial life. Five years ago, your wife Jane vanished without explanation. You've always known something was wrong inside these walls.

Tonight, everything falls apart. The lethal XENO-9 parasite breaks free, and the complex descends into chaos. A deadly alien presence now stalks the dark, and the facility's private security team has sealed the complex with orders to leave no one alive. To survive, you'll have to think your way out — solving puzzles, piecing together the dark secrets buried beneath Helix-9, and uncovering the truth about what really happened to your wife.

How it plays

The game is a first-person blend of exploration, puzzle-solving, and tension. Your only tool is the Smart Pistol, an energy-based weapon with three switchable modes (keys 1–2–3). It doesn't fire ordinary bullets — it shapes the world around you, and every shot drains energy you have to manage carefully:

  • Sound Frequency Mode — the cheapest mode. Fire a sound pulse to lure enemies toward a chosen spot, or make noise at your own position to draw them to you. Essential for misdirecting threats you'd rather not face head-on.
  • Energy Charge Mode — powers up objects like generators, lights, and doors. This is the heart of most puzzles: route power where it's needed to open paths and reactivate machinery.
  • Attack Mode — the most expensive mode. A stunning/lethal shot to deal with enemies, with a short-range area version for tight situations.

You'll explore the facility with full first-person movement (WASD, Shift to sprint), a flashlight (F) for the dark, and an interaction system (E) for files, items, doors, charge stations, and puzzles.

Puzzles & survival

Progress is gated behind environmental puzzles built around the pistol's modes. You'll redirect power through generators, trigger sound-sensitive receivers to open hidden mechanisms, and clear obstacles (sandbag barriers) blocking your path. There's often a short, energy-hungry route and a longer, energy-saving one — so managing your charge is part of the challenge. Burn it all and you'll have to backtrack to a charge station while the danger keeps closing in.

Enemies

  • Helix Security Team (Soldiers) — heavily armed human forces who answer only to Director Evelyn Krane. Their equipment shields them from the parasite, and their orders are simple: seal the facility and eliminate everyone left inside. Use sound mode to misdirect them or your attack mode to fight back — but they hit hard.
  • XENO-A — a towering, immensely strong alien that means instant death if it catches you. You cannot kill it — only stun it for a few seconds with a shot to buy time and escape.

The story unfolds through official files, personal letters, photographs, and short conversations with surviving NPCs — letting you uncover the conspiracy at Helix-9 at your own pace.

Can you escape the complex, expose the truth, and finally learn what happened to Jane?

Playtime: ~30–40 minutes. Developed as a university project.
